Guest Blogger Interview – No 5. The Horsey Mum Blog

Apologize as I have missed a month with being busy with home and work life but this month we are back with our regular guest interview post and this month we have with us the hilarious and brilliant Alice with her blog:

The Horsey Mum

1. How did you first get into blogging and what inspired you to start your blog?

I was bored while my partner was away Skiing, so to entertain myself I started writing about my poor equestrian fashion and lifestyle. I’m a very open, happy go lucky girl, and with in a day or two I have about 1000 followers! I think I make people feel normal!

2. What was your most successful post? Why do you think it was appealing?

Just when COVID19 hit, I fell off a pony I had in for schooling, I ended up hanging out of a hedge upside down, wetting myself! I think people were so grateful for a bit of lite relief from the Pandemic, it went viral! I named the blog ‘the bat theory’.

3. Tell me about your proudest horsey achievement?

I have many, having come from a family with little money- whatever I have achieved with my ponies has always been from the hard work that I have put in. Although I am very lucky to have very supportive horsey parents to guide me, I have always been very dedicated. I have had many red Rosette and sash moments, however, although I am very competitive and like to win, I don’t believe coming first is what counts all the time, it’s about what you’ve achieved yourself. For all this, the only rosette I continue to have beside my bed is the first rosette I hold from ‘Firle Hunter Trial’ Open Class, it may not seem a big one to win to others but back in the day, this was all I strived to do, win the open class and the icing on the cake to this, is it was the last competition my Nanny watched me ride at before she passed away- I will always cherish this moment.

4. How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running? How much time do you spend blogging?

I don’t know how much time I spend blogging, but how much time I spend scrolling through social media at useless equestrian adverts is unreal! In fact, I would personally say it’s a poor addiction. And after 1 too many G&T’s I normally end up buying some useless tack or a new pony thinking I’ve bought myself a bargain!!!! My blog, on the other hand, mmmm… some weeks it gets neglected and some weeks it’s very busy, which is a poor blogging skill! I have to feel funny to post on my blog, otherwise, the blog is just boring! It’s just for fun and do people really want to sit reading a lot of tosh? My readers are amazing though and I thank each and every one of them for following me!

5. What do you find the most frustrating aspect of blogging?

You occasionally get a jealous member that has a snide remark to declare- thankfully I can normally laugh it off. But I think generally in life, not just in blogging- people forget ‘we are only human’ and we do have feelings!

6. What advice would you give to fellow bloggers? Are there any strategies you would recommend?

I once researched it, and the top bloggers say… You need to blog at the same time each day and no more than 3 blogs a day! I, on the other hand, am not very good at this, juggling horses, children, and general life and trying to keep everyone happy is hard enough, without the worry of having to add a blog in every day at 10 am!!!

7. Do you have any plans/goals for the future?

Well, when I started the blog there was no ambition for it to become anything, however when somebody then pointed out you can make money from it- if any blogger tells you they are doing it for pleasure they lie!
