Guest blogger interviews – No.1 Nutty Nags

Welcome to our new monthly interviews, devoted to guest bloggers.

Each month we will be featuring an interview from a different guest blogger and getting to know more about them and their blogs. I am hoping this slot will allow readers to find a whole host of new and inspiring bloggers to follow.

First up is the lovely Vanessa Hill from Nutty nags. Vanessa is a retired lady who lives in the UK, she writes about all things equestrian, from tips to product reviews. Vanessa enjoys eventing as a more mature rider and proves she has what it takes to be a great equestrian.

Read on to find out what Vanessa had to share with us…

1. How did you first get into blogging and what inspired you to start your blog?

I got into blogging when I retired. I had written a few magazine articles and several of my clients suggested it would be great for me to do, as I wanted to keep doing something in the equestrian world.

2. What was your most successful post? Why do you think it was appealing?

My most successful post was about breast pain and how it affects the rider, the damage it can do by not wearing a good sports bra, and how it also affects your position and your horse’s way of going.  I think it was successful as so many women had a ” lightbulb moment ” reading it, I certainly did researching it.

3. Tell me about your proudest horsey achievement?

My proudest horsey moment, there has been so many, from winning Christy Beaufort’s as a junior to qualifying for the Foxhunter, taking my all-time favourite horse from the racetrack to a grade A, and also going to Monty Robert’s Flag is Up ranch near Solvang and meeting him and being privileged to watch him start a horse. So many great memories.

4. How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running? How much time do you spend blogging?

I use my blog both as a daily diary of the ups and downs of what I do both with my horses and myself to keep fit. I also do tips and get products to review.
As a more mature rider, it’s amazing how many people have said I have been an inspiration to them, especially when I had both knees replaced last year, and it’s nice to hear that.

5. What do you find the most frustrating aspect of blogging?

The most frustrating thing about blogging for me is technology. Until I retired I never had a computer and am self-taught, bearing in mind I wasn’t brought up in the classroom using them – I am 60, its something I still struggle with, and I am still making huge mistakes.

6. What advice would you give to fellow bloggers? Are there any strategies you would recommend?

When I first started blogging, my followers were just my friends and my old clients and initially I was happy with that.
But, it has gradually taken off and I now have just short of 2000 followers.
My advice to anyone starting out, would be to just be yourself, nobody is perfect and we all have bad days, and I find people like to see how you deal with things going wrong, it helps inspire them to keep trying things without being disheartened.

7. Do you have any plans/goals for the future?

My goals for my blog is to just enjoy writing it, get more exposure and increase my followers. Also to get more products to review, as I love trying out new things and help promote quality products especially from new businesses.
